Inside Out Contracts Sharing Key Trends Shaping Hospitality Design

Just back from Boutique Design New York (BDNY) 2024, Lisa, Justin, Molly & Dhruvi from the Inside Out Team took a dive into the world of cutting-edge trends in hospitality and commercial interiors. BDNY is renowned for showcasing innovative design solutions, and the event did not disappoint. The team came away inspired, eager to bring these insights back to the UK.

Managing Director Lisa Cluer reflected on the debut experience, saying, “Attending BDNY was an incredible opportunity as we launch in the US this year. We were enthused with the NY energy, immersed in a wealth of creativity and fresh ideas that align with the evolving demands of modern hospitality spaces. The focus on sculptural, tactile, and sustainable furniture really resonated with us both for the UK market and from across the pond.”

Several key trends stood out during their visit:

  • Sustainability and Timelessness: Many of the designs had a timeless quality, emphasising sustainable materials and long-lasting styles. “The industry is moving towards durable, eco-friendly investments in design, and BDNY really showcased that,” Justin observed. “People want pieces that are stylish and sustainable, lasting beyond passing trends.”
  • Bold, Sculptural Furniture: Organic shapes and sculptural forms made a powerful impression, offering a blend of comfort and visual intrigue. These pieces act as functional art, adding a unique character to interiors.
  • Mixed Materials: The use of diverse materials—textured fabrics, stone, and wood—created a layered, immersive experience. “This approach to design invites touch and interaction, which is exactly what hospitality spaces need to feel warm and inviting,” said Justin, Sales Director. “BDNY showed us how different materials can come together beautifully to enrich a space.”
  • Earthy and Natural Tones: A palette of calming, nature-inspired tones dominated, bringing a sense of tranquillity and connection to the outdoors. This biophillic design approach aligns with wellness-focused interiors, which are becoming increasingly important in hospitality. Lisa commented, “The natural tones we saw reflect a desire for spaces that promote relaxation and well-being—a priority for modern guests.”
  • Artisanal and Crafted Details: Artisanal touches were a common theme, with intricate textures and patterns adding depth and individuality to spaces. This appreciation for craftsmanship and detail signals a desire for unique, character-rich interiors.

Reflecting on their first BDNY experience, Lisa summed up the event’s impact: “This debut has given us invaluable insights into what’s next in hospitality design. The emphasis on comfort, individuality, and sustainability mirrors our own values at Inside Out Contracts. We’re excited to incorporate these trends and promote within our furniture collections and inspire the clients we collaborate with both in the Uk and overseas.”
