Milan to Clerkenwell: The Rise of Soft Curves
Seen at Salone del Mobile and continuing into Clerkenwell Design Week, soft curved silhouettes are reshaping hospitality interiors by creating spaces that feel comfortable, tactile and more relaxed.
After the excitement and energy of Milan, Clerkenwell Design Week felt like the perfect continuation of the conversation. Across both shows, one trend consistently stood out throughout hospitality and commercial furniture designs: soft curves.
From soft curved sculptural lounge chairs and rounded sofas to cocooning seating, softer forms appeared everywhere and it’s easy to see why. They instantly soften a hospitality space, creating areas that feel calmer, more welcoming and more enjoyable to spend time in.
Walking through the different exhibition venues across Clerkenwell, each space had its own atmosphere and personality, yet there was a clear thread connecting many of the new launches. Curved silhouettes, tactile fabrics and layered natural materials appeared again and again, creating spaces that felt warm, inviting and experience-led.
What made Clerkenwell particularly interesting was seeing how naturally the design language from Milan carried through into many of the new collections on display. While the products all felt fresh and varied, the same themes continued to emerge throughout the week; earthy tones, textured finishes, sculptural forms and material mixes that bring softness and depth to hospitality environments.
In hospitality settings especially, these softer forms encourage people to slow down and stay longer, whether that’s relaxing in a hotel lounge, enjoying cocktails with friends or spending time in more informal breakout areas. There’s a clear shift towards interiors designed around comfort, atmosphere and how people want to feel within a space.
Natural materials also continued to play a major role throughout both shows. Warm natural wood finishes, woven textures, brushed metals and tactile upholstery reinforced this move towards interiors that feel more layered and authentic.
Some of the standout launches featured beautifully understated lounge collections with subtle curves and sculptural profiles that immediately drew people in. Rather than creating statement pieces purely for visual impact, many brands focused on designing furniture that feels softer, more timeless and easier to live with.
If Milan introduced the direction, Clerkenwell confirmed it: soft curves are here to stay.
