Introduction
Salone del Mobile. Milano is the global platform for launching the very latest top-notch contract furniture with an emphasis on innovation. The products on display in the exhibition are a true showcase for cutting edge design which is developing and creating our culture today in hospitality venues around the world. Any type of restaurant furniture can be found here as the show has a huge influence on the future trends we see.
Each year, many of the exhibitors, launch thousands of contract furniture pieces, which are unveiled for the first time and showcases creativity on an international level. Despite the 2021 Milan show being slightly smaller than some years, the show still had an abundance of creative & innovative furniture designs, displaying some strong trends which will be covered later. The voice of designers and creatives united to display a wealth of inspiration, both in talks available online, in person at the show or through displaying a vast range of products.
For those in search of the future favourites for restaurant furniture, Salone Del Mobile, Milano was the treasure trove it always is, for the very latest in design and innovation.
Colours
It is easy to see that there is a colour trend for oranges, terracotta, burnt muted colours and darker wood types.
Previously we have seen bleached ash or lighter wood types, but this year we are seeing a big change to the darker woods like walnut and rosewood. One of the big benefits of using walnut wood, is that it is a durable, long-lasting type of wood, highly resistant to wear and tear.
These darker wood tones contrast wonderfully with the deep oranges, terracotta and burnt muted colours. Deep orange velvets, or bright orange plastics both inspire feelings of excitement, enthusiasm and warmth. Restaurant furniture which uses these colours, inspires a friendly, social environment, full of life and comfort.
There is also a wonderful benefit to the richness and warmth of oranges, terracotta & burnt muted colours, as these deeper colours are far more practical than the previous light colour trends for contract environments, meaning venues can maintain their schemes for longer without needing to re-upholster or refurbish after a short-time.
Materials
Sustainability and recycled materials are still a big deal in the world of contract furniture. Expect this trend to stay and get louder, especially as climate changes continue to create chaos globally.
Salone del Mobile. Milano, have 2 great articles on going green and the harmony between product and environment.
However, there were several stands which I noticed, as I walked around who were promoting their use of recycled materials. The Remind and Babila products are available in 100% recycled materials.
Eco-friendly restaurant furniture is made from environmentally friendly materials such as reclaimed or recycled wood, glass, iron or plastic. The challenge to be greener is being met with both innovation and practicality in the world of furniture design. This means we are seeing functional & elegant coffee tables made out of glass, as well as, chairs being made with both comfort and sustainability in mind.
Outdoors
This year the selection of creative outdoors restaurant furniture is really innovative and eye catching. Comfort and style are something which has been embraced by the designers, who no doubt are responding to the needs of the hospitality industry.
We are seeing curved plastic or woven designs, inspiring both comfort and practicality for the increased need for outdoor restaurant furniture over the past year.
