Curzon Wimbledon

Curzon Wimbledon has been a treasured independent cinema for over 15 years and remains a much-loved part of the local community. When the time came for a radical refresh, we were delighted to be part of the transformation.

Having worked with Curzon for many years, we have had the pleasure of watching the brand grow, expand and evolve.

For us, it is always rewarding to see our clients flourish and to build relationships that grow over time. This project felt particularly special, as it was the first time our team were so closely involved in shaping the colour palette, lighting, and overall atmosphere of the space; bringing a truly holistic design approach to one of South London’s most loved cinemas.

Initial Concept

The project aimed to create a space that felt both intimate and timeless. An interior that would evoke the nostalgic charm of cinema but with a contemporary, elegant edge that would allow the time to be extended before or after the film.

Inside Out’s in-house design team led the concept, developing the colour palette, material specification and spatial layout that would define the refurbishment.

The design journey began with a meeting between Inside Out’s team and Curzon to agree on the colour scheme - a warm, cinematic blend with brass accents. The palette features rusty rich tones, deep olive green, and muted mustard, creating a sophisticated and earthy harmony.

This evolved into the final scheme: a combination of velvet textures, dark timber and marble, lifted by subtle brass detailing to bring a soft glow to the interiors.

The result is a beautifully rich, layered and inviting space that encourages people to linger over a drink, relax with friends and enjoy the experience for hours.

Beautiful Banquette

The main lounge and bar area was designed to be the social heart of the cinema, a place for conversation, a drink, or a pause before watching a film in total comfort.

Helping to exude classic glamour and comfort, is a stunning curved bespoke banquette upholstered in green velvet with Byblos Jaspe patterned cushions to add depth and colour contrast. The banquettes curves create softness and flow, and works perfectly with the brass fluted Blume table bases topped with Calacatta Viola marble, adding an understated sense of luxury.

The Jona side chairs, upholstered in Byblos Jaspe and Cordoba Hudson, pair beautifully with the palette’s rich tones. Every element was selected to ensure a layered, comfortable and distinctly Curzon atmosphere.

Cinema Screens

As you move from the lounge into the screening areas, the palette gradually deepens in tone and texture. The warm herringbone timber flooring transitions seamlessly into a dusky plum carpet, setting the mood for the cinematic experience ahead. Lighting plays a key role here. The Soho wall lights, with their brass rings and softly diffused glow, bring a sense of rhythm, style and intimacy to the walkways.

Each row of seats features bespoke side tables, designed specifically for Curzon and inspired by previous collaborations across other venues. These elegant pieces pair dark timber tops with sleek black metal frames, offering a refined yet practical touch, perfectly positioned for a glass of wine or a shared bottle during the film.

The cinema seating, upholstered in Lovely Umber, adds a rich tactile quality, beautifully complemented by Dusky Plum carpets and walls finished in Uluru Sunset. Together, these elements create a cocooning, luxurious atmosphere where every screening feels like a private occasion.

A Glowing Refresh

When the project was revealed, it drew praise from Time Out London, which described the refurbishment as a “glow-up” for one of South London’s best-loved cinemas. The refreshed Curzon Wimbledon balances familiarity with freshness, a space that feels cinematic, elegant and deeply comfortable.
