GAIL's Bakery, Crossrail Place, Canary Wharf

Located near Canary Wharf's Elizabeth Line station, GAIL's Crossrail Place has been designed as more than somewhere to grab a coffee on the go. It's a calm, welcoming space where commuters, local workers and visitors can pause, meet and unwind, surrounded by warm materials, handcrafted details and an interior that feels unmistakably GAIL's.

Working alongside the design team, Inside Out Contracts supplied and installed the complete loose furniture package, helping to translate the creative vision into a practical, hard-working hospitality environment. Every piece was carefully selected to complement the bakery's rich material palette while standing up to the demands of one of London's busiest transport destinations.

One of the standout features of the scheme is the collection of bespoke communal tables, each made with inset surfaces crafted from recycled plastic waste. No two tabletops are the same, with every piece displaying its own distinctive terrazzo-like pattern. Framed in handcrafted ash timber, they bring together thoughtful design, beautiful materiality and a genuine commitment to circular manufacturing, creating focal points that naturally encourage people to gather and stay a little longer.

That sustainable approach continues throughout the space. Café tables feature Heron recycled plastic tabletops paired with clean, durable steel bases, proving that environmentally conscious materials can feel every bit as refined as traditional finishes. Alongside them, solid beech and oak furniture introduces warmth and texture, from handcrafted stools and classic café chairs to bespoke coffee tables and timber benches. The result is a furniture collection that feels relaxed, tactile and completely at home within GAIL's handcrafted interior.

Behind the scenes, our role was to make sure every detail came together seamlessly. From coordinating delivery and installation to positioning each piece in line with the designer's vision, we focused on making the process as smooth as possible. Once everything was in place, all packaging was removed and recycled, and as with every Inside Out Contracts project, a tree was planted as part of our ongoing commitment to responsible project delivery.

The finished space is a great example of what happens when thoughtful furniture design supports great interior design. Sustainable materials, bespoke craftsmanship and carefully chosen commercial furniture work together to create an environment that's warm, welcoming, and built to perform day after day.
